At Hope Community Capital, we believe leadership is the catalyst for lasting change. This year, we have seen that belief brought to life in extraordinary ways: in the vision of local champions, in the persistence of community organizations, and in the transformative results that follow. In August, two NMTC transactions closed that embody this spirit. The $13 million renovation and expansion of the Boys and Girls Club of Janesville will triple its capacity, providing 35,000 square feet of space to serve more youth with essential, high quality programs. In Wautoma, an $18 million NMTC investment with the Stevens Point YMCA will create a new main YMCA campus that will include a gym, fitness center, childcare facility, lobby, locker rooms, and a much anticipated aquatics center.
Both projects were made possible by deeply community centered leadership — leaders who have spent years listening to and responding to local needs, building relationships, and securing strong public and philanthropic support. These investments will have long-term impact by expanding childcare, strengthening food security, improving access to quality education, and fostering healthier communities. This spirit is also reflected in Patrick Landry, CEO of Notre Dame School of Milwaukee and recipient of Milwaukee BizTimes’ Nonprofit Executive of the Year. We have been honored to partner with Patrick on two NMTC transactions that are expanding educational opportunity in Milwaukee.
At HCC, we see ourselves as leaders in transforming the systems that perpetuate the challenges our clients face, shaping community development finance to be more responsive, and carrying out our work with compassion, kindness, and integrity. These projects, and the leaders behind them, remind us how it can change the trajectory of communities for generations.
